Let the show begin!

Hello my dear friends,

I've been asked to create a blog. Not because one of my courses requires me to do this. No, no. Because as a global, open-minded and observing person you HAVE to have one. So basically I'm doing this for myself. This way I'm finally one of you (you out there being supercool and having opinions about stuff that are, supposedly, worth reading). Yay! :)

So, where to start?

I've been in Madrid now for a little longer than a week and I must say that I really enjoy it. The city is, as expected, very beautiful and the Spanish way of living is exactly what I was looking for. So far, I wasn't able to explore the city too much because I still have a lot of stuff to do finishing my semester in Groningen. However, I'll be done with all that in a while and I've noticed that I'm slowly but surely starting to adapt to the Spanish culture.. :) What I can say so far: The red wine is yummy and the food amazing.

I'm living with a very nice couple in the southern part of Madrid. The metro to Sol, the main metro station in the centre, only needs a few minutes to take me there. Most other interesting spots are also very close by, however, I doubt that I can see everything that Madrid has to offer while I'm here...

What especially is incredible about Madrid is the blue, blue, blue sky. I've never seen such a blue sky for so many days in a row. As soon as I wake up in the morning I open the covers in front of my window and get a little smile on my face. It is just really, really nice. You should come and see it for yourself! Obviously it is even more impressive if you stand in front of the Royal Palace or have a café con leche in Retiro Park... :)

The last couple of days it has been a bit stressful or irritating for me that some Spanish look at me as if I'm a crazy person or something. :) Let me explain.. obviously I'm one of the tallest here and due to my skin and hair colour stick out of the crowd a bit. However, I'm not the only tourist here that might come from a country different than Latin America or Italy!! :) Nonetheless, people stare at me and at times even make weird faces as soon as they see my face. That's kinda weird, right? One night on my way back I've even met some drunk guys (maybe from South America or somewhere in that region) who started harrassing me. Not nice.. but I shielded them off. You know me and my strong muscles! :)

Alright friends, this is my 1st blog entry. I hope you enjoyed the show! :) I'll start writing about my experiences in Madrid on a weekly basis, I hope. Maybe, if you're lucky, I'm even gonna share some of my opinions on political world issues with you... maybe...

Cheers,

Sara
